Day 185: A Time to Reap

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: 2 Kings 22:8-20

Central Thought: God remembers the righteous when he punishes sin.

Does God truly remember those who serve Him? Some doubt His faithfulness when they see believers suffering in various parts of the world. Yet, if we were to sit down with the suffering believers and discuss their experiences, we would find people have learned that God is indeed with them in the midst of suffering.

Today’s reading discusses a crucial moment in Judah’s history. As temple repairs were being completed, a copy of God’s Law (the Pentateuch) was found. When King Josiah listened to Shaphan reading God’s Word, he tore his clothes in grief at the sins of his people. Josish then inquired of the prophetess Huldah as to whether these judgments were coming to Judah. She told him that they were indeed coming, but that God remembered Josiah’s righteousness and would allow him to die in peace.

God always knows the condition of our hearts. He will not forget our commitment to serve Him. When our world seems to be falling apart and it seems as though no one is living for God, we can remember that He is still with us. God wants us to trust in His control of what is happening around us.

Devotional Prayer: Help me always consider Your righteous laws.
