Day 207: Nature Reveals God

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 19:1-14

Central Thought: Nature reveals its Creator.

How can we know there is a God? A dying man posed this question to a visiting pastor one afternoon. For every argument the pastor made for the existence of God, the man managed to return a doubting response.

Just outside the man’s window stood a daily reminder of God’s existence. The tall pines that stood in front of his small mobile home, the gorgeous blue sky dotted with clouds overhead, the green grass that surrounded it—all provided proof of a Supreme Being.

In Psalm 19, David pointed to nature for proof of God. He saw ‘the sky above” as God’s ‘handiwork,” and day and night as a speech revealing His vast knowledge (verses 1, 2, ESV). In verse 4, David said that this revelation extends to the whole world.

The next time you look up into the sky or try to picture shapes with the clouds over your head or admire the moon and stars at night, thank God for His creation. The next time you speak of God’s love to someone who doubts the existence of God, point this person to nature. Challenge him or her to consider how all the loveliness around us could come into being without a Supreme Being behind it.

Like the dying man in the house trailer, the person you talk with about this may shrug it off and continue in unbelief. But he or she will do so ignoring the great testimony creation provides. Its beauty shouts loudly, ‘I did not simply happen. I am here by Divine design!”

Devotional Prayer: Thank You, heavenly Father, for the beauty of creation and the revelation of You it provides all of us.
