Day 202: Making Right Decisions
Author: Lloyd McCutchenToday’s Scripture: 2 Chronicles 1:6-12
Central Thought: Seek the Lord’s wisdom, and He will guide you in your decisions.
Solomon made some good decisions during the first years of his reign. As was true with Solomon, the decisions we make will have far-reaching consequences as we seek to fulfill God’s plan for our lives.
As a first act of Solomon’s reign, he went to the brazen altar to pray. He prayed that God would establish him. He asked for wisdom and knowledge to judge the people. God was pleased, and promised to give him wisdom, riches, and honor.
It seems redundant when 2 Chronicles 2:1 states that Solomon decided to build a house for the Lord. Wasn’t that his destiny? This isn’t as strange as it sounds. God has a plan for every life. We, too, have to make the decision to follow through and do God’s will! And Solomon made the right choice!
After making the decision to build the temple, Solomon made another important decision. He decided not to rush into this project without being prepared.
David had gathered a lot of things, but it would take much more. Workers must be recruited. Timbers and stones must be prepared. It took more than four years to be ready to start the building! But start he did, and built a glorious edifice for God.
It is important to make the right decisions in life, and to seek God’s wisdom as we do. The first decision is to make God a partner in everything we do. Then He will lead us to make the proper decisions day by day so as to fulfill His glorious plan in our lives—like a beautiful temple unto His glory!
Devotional Prayer: Lord, I ask for wisdom to do what You have called me to do. Help me to seek Your guidance and wisdom for each step I take as I follow Your plan for my life.
