Day 201: Everything Good Comes from God

Author: Lloyd McCutchen

Today’s Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-19

Central Thought: We should offer all we are and all we have to God in consecration.

The Bible records the final prayer David offered as he approached the end of his reign. This prayer speaks volumes about David’s character and relationship with God.

David ascribed all of the glory to God, recognizing that all the power, majesty, wealth, and victories of his kingdom came from Him. He worshipped, ‘Yours is the kingdom. You are exalted” (verse 11).

As he looked at the huge cache of wealth he had accumulated for the temple, David remembered when he was a poor shepherd boy. That brought a heartfelt cry, ‘Who am I?” (verse 14). He must have thought, ‘How did I get here? I was nobody. It is only by the grace of God that I have been brought to this state; it is not because of anything I have done!”

As Christians, we should ask ourselves, ‘Who am I?” We must realize that it is only by the grace of God that we have anything. It all comes from Him!

Then David declared that he was giving back to God from the abundance of God’s blessings to him and the people of God for the building of God’s temple. David closed his prayer by asking God to give His people this same attitude, and to give Solomon a perfect heart.

David soon died with no regrets. He had completed his task. His life was fulfilled. He was remembered as a great king.

Devotional Prayer: God, help me to offer my life to you afresh, and give me the wisdom to further Your Kingdom.
