Day 195: Worthy of Praise

Author: Richard J. Bennett

Today’s Scripture: 1 Chronicles 16:8-34

Central Thought: God alone is worthy of praise.

‘How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” This famous first line from a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning has been used by suitors to recount the virtues of their love interests over the years. Have you ever considered counting the ways God is worthy of your praise?

David was known for His wholehearted worship of God. First Chronicles 16 records David’s song of thanks as he rejoiced in the ark of God being brought to Jerusalem. In this song David identified multiple reasons why God is worthy of praise, including His wondrous works (verse 9), His faithfulness to the covenant (verses 14-18), His protection of His people (verses 19-22), and His uniqueness as the One True God and Creator (verses 23-26).

Perhaps it has been a while since you have taken the time and effort to count the ways God is worthy of your praise. Why not do it today? And tomorrow. And each day after that. ‘Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name” (verse 29).

Devotional Prayer: God, You alone are worthy of praise. I ascribe to You the glory due Your name this day.
