Day 193: Strong Support

Author: Richard J. Bennett

Today’s Scripture: 1 Chronicles 11:1-10

Central Thought: Christians can provide strong support to their shepherds.

‘Many hands make light work” is a familiar saying. While it is true that ‘too many cooks can spoil the broth,” more often than not jobs are easier to do when people help one another.

God had called David to be the shepherd or leader of His people. But David didn’t have to do what was required of him all by himself. There were ‘mighty men, who gave him strong support in his kingdom” (verse 10).

God calls people today to shepherd His people. We call them pastors. Christians are to provide strong support to those God has placed in leadership over His Church. How can we support pastors? First, by praying for them. Second, by getting involved in the ministries of our local churches. Another way is to be faithful to God in our tithes and offerings so churches have the resources to fund ministries and adequately support pastors.

What can you do to give strong support to your pastor? Why not start with an e-mail or a card to let your pastor know you appreciate and are praying for him or her?

Devotional Prayer: God, help me to be a person who supports and appreciates those You have chosen as shepherds of Your people.
