Day 183: Ultimate Commitment

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Acts 21:10-16

Central Thought: Serving God is worth any price we might pay.

Nathan Hale was captured by the British army during the American Revolution and convicted of being a spy for the American Patriots. On the day the British executed him by hanging, it is reported that Hale said, ‘I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” Hale saw no sacrifice too great compared to the loyalty he felt for his country.

The Apostle Paul also understood such loyalty. Agabus took Paul’s belt and prophesied that the owner of the belt would be turned over to the Gentiles by the Jews in Jerusalem. Paul’s friends immediately pleaded with him to avoid that place. Yet, Paul stated that not only was he ready to be bound as a prisoner, but he was ready to die for the Lord.

Whether or not we are ever called to literally give our lives for the gospel, God wants us to die to our own plans and commit to follow Him regardless of the cost. Such a complete commitment to the Lord will give us the determination to stand for Him no matter the challenges. God wants our complete loyalty to Him.

Devotional Prayer: I recommit myself to serving You no matter what.
