Day 56: Role of the Holy Spirit

Author: Pastor Larry & Pat Downing

John’s Gospel gives us Jesus’ explanation of the role of the Holy Spirit on this earth. The Holy Spirit is to lead, guide, inspire and empower the Church of Jesus Christ.

According to Zechariah 12:10, the Holy Spirit is a Spirit of grace and supplication. He will teach us what we need to know, guide us into all truth, show us things to come and glorify Jesus. He is called the Paraclete, our Comforter, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener and Standby. He will always bring glory to Jesus and point you to His Word.

John 16:14 says that the Spirit will reveal, or transmit, the things of God to us. Sometimes transmission of power or knowledge can even come to us when we are unaware. We can be in a faith–filled environment and not necessarily “feel” anything; however, the Holy Spirit transmits power, or healing, or revelation in and by His Spirit, and we suddenly realize that we have grown or been given revelation.

The Holy Spirit helps us to pray and anoints us to pray. We don’t necessarily need to bring a list to prayer––we need to learn to yield to the promptings of the Spirit and begin to ow with Him. As we wait on the leading of the Holy Spirit, prayer will never be boring!

What is the Holy Spirit saying to me?

• Choose your favorite of the Holy Spirit’s names and meditate on it. Write down ways He has revealed Himself to you.

• Ask the Holy Spirit to anoint you with a fresh anointing as you pray today. Practice yielding your thoughts and speech to His promptings and try to ow with Him in a new way.

• Let go of any personal inhibitions that are restricting the ow of His living water in your life.
