Day 1: The Power for a Victorious Christian Life and Evangelism

Author: Pastor Larry & Pat Downing

The greatest miracle that we experience in our lives should be to come to believe in Jesus and become the children of God. Whoever believes in Jesus receives salvation. There is no condition, deed, or effort required to believe in Jesus. However, after regenerating, we should receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit to live a victorious Christian life.

The Apostle Paul went to Ephesus and met some disciples there. When he looked at them, he realized that they lacked something essential. He felt the disciples had no fullness of joy in their hearts and lived powerless lives. When Apostle Paul asked them whether they received the Holy Spirit when they believed, they replied that they just received John’s baptism. Since the disciples at Ephesus had neither known nor received the Holy Spirit, they had no power of God.

The devil keeps seducing and tries to make those who do not know the Holy Spirit live without its power. To win a fight against our wicked enemy the devil, against problems, and against our weaknesses, we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The devil cannot come to those who are filled with the Holy Spirit. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are overwhelmed with joy, thanksgiving, grace, and love in our hearts. Moreover, we come to enjoy worship service, spread the gospel, pray, and listen to the Word.

By receiving the fullness of the Holy Spirit, we become the people who testify about Jesus. When the disciples at Ephesus who only received John’s baptism of repentance were baptized into the name of Jesus by hearing Apostle Paul’s words, the Holy Spirit came on them (Acts 9: 4-7). Then, they came to speak in tongues and became bold gospel preachers. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we become the witnesses of the gospel who cannot help spreading Jesus as well as being full of joy and the love of Jesus. Furthermore, being filled with the Holy Spirit makes us think always about Jesus, follow Jesus, testify about Jesus, and live for the glory of Jesus.

Did you receive the Holy Spirit? If so, what has changed most in your life of faith?
