Day 12: Does God Really Need Money?

Author: Douglas W. Martin

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 3:9-10

Central Thought: Although God can make it without money, we will be blessed if we give for His work.

One noble concept that seems to have been nearly drained from modern society is honor. Honor has been diminished in almost every facet of our society. Mother and father are not honored in the family. Our elders are increasingly dishonored and even abused. Teachers and principals are under an onslaught of dishonor in various ways in our educational systems. Our law officers are diminished by the media and entertainment industries. Honor for God has almost disappeared from many segments of our society.

How can we honor God? We can honor him with our thoughts, our words, and our deeds. We can also honor God with our financial assets! As we direct part of our financial resources into churches that are honoring God by seeking to see lives changed from within, we can partner with people who are carrying out the Great Commission and affecting the world with the grace of God.

God does not need your money, but the work of God is carried out on the earth by the resources that God has entrusted to our care. These resources are mined, refined, and distributed by the means of finances. When we become involved in that which interests God, we open a great opportunity to people all over the earth. It is the opportunity to know Him who created everything that exists. We also open up the possibility for God to touch those resources under our care and bless and multiply them as we honor Him above all else.

It has been said by many pragmatic people that money makes the world go around. Poets and singers have argued that what the world really needs is love. The truth is God moves money through people to get His message of love to a lost and dying world.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, I want to truly honor You because You are worthy of honor. I not only wish to honor You with my thoughts, my intentions, and my words; but I also want to honor you tangibly with my finances as I invest myself in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. Thank You for blessing me and helping me to honor you in all I do.
