Day 48: How Can I Be Forgiven of My Sin?

Author: Richard L. Schoonover

Today’s Scripture: Leviticus 4:1-5:19

Central Thought: Jesus Christ is the only One who can forgive sins

When I answered the church phone one afternoon, the young woman on the other end asked, ‘Where can I find a priest who will sacrifice a bull for me?” Her question puzzled me. I began to talk with her to discover why she asked this question. Soon she shared how she needed to prove to someone that her sins had been forgiven. She had read in the Old Testament that when someone sinned they were to bring a bull to the priest for a sacrifice for their sin. She desperately wanted forgiveness.

Later that day my wife and I explained to her that the Scripture she had read was no longer in effect. Jesus Christ had become our Sacrifice and she could find forgiveness as she confessed her sin to Him. In the next several months we had the privilege of mentoring her in her newfound faith in Christ.

Perhaps you have been feeling the need for forgiveness. You have wondered where you could turn to find this forgiveness. God has provided forgiveness through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus (Romans 3:25Hebrews 9:261 John 2:1,2). There is no one else who can save you (Acts 4:12). All you need to do is come to Him and confess your sin (Romans 10:9,101 John 1:9). When you do, you will discover what this young lady discovered: peace with God and the assurance that her sins had been forgiven.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, I come to You just as I am. I recognize that You are the only One who can forgive my sins. I submit my life to You and accept your forgiveness.
