Day 26: God, Are You Listening?

Author: Nancy A. Stevens

Today’s Scripture: Exodus 2:11-3:22

Central Thought: God hears our cries, feels our pain, and will help us in the way that He knows is best

You’re faced with devastating circumstances that never seem to improve. The answers from God that you expected have not come. You feel alone and confused. You wonder, Father, where are You? Why don’t You answer me?

The Israelites experienced these same feelings. The Egyptians had enslaved them and mistreated them. In despair, the Israelites cried out to God.

How did God respond? He called to Moses from the burning bush and told him, ”I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering’” (Exodus 3:7, NIV). God said that He would rescue His people and bring them into a good land. Then, as if to reinforce His concern, He said, ”The cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them’” (3:9).

Although the Israelites did not know it, God was working on their behalf, commissioning Moses to lead them out of Egypt and into the Promised Land.

In the midst of your pain and overwhelming circumstances, God wants to say to you, ‘I have seen your misery, I have heard your cries, and I am concerned about your suffering.” When God’s purposes have been accomplished, He will work on your behalf. In the meantime, keep looking to Him for strength, help, and whatever you may need. God’s promises do come true. He will be faithful to you.

Devotional Prayer: Father, we don’t understand why You have allowed these devastating circumstances and setbacks. Please hold us close to You, strengthen our hearts, and continue to remind us of Your tender care.
