Faith Walk: Pray More, Worry Less
Author: Dr. George FlatteryWorry is the greatest con artist in the world.
It pretends to be necessary, but it serves no useful purpose. Worry is essentially a control issue. It’s trying to control the uncontrollable. We can’t control the economy, our children or the future so we worry. Worry doesn’t change anything but does make us miserable. We can overcome our worries by identifying them specifically. One of the reasons why we are often stressed out is that we have a vague feeling that “something is wrong,” or that “something bad is going to happen,” but we don’t know what it is. Let us identify our worries by writing them down or talking to someone about that which we are fearful of. Ask ourselves, “what is the worst thing that would happen if what we are worried about actually happened?” In most cases, the “worst thing that could happen,” is very manageable in our lives. We can give our worries to God through prayer. If we prayed more, we would worry less.
If it is worth panicking about, it is worth praying about. “Father, there are so many things to worry about. We give you our fears and our worries. We know that you have everything under control. Amen.”
