Day 47: Experiencing Physical Healing

Author: Richard L. Schoonover

Today’s Scripture: Mark 1:29-2:12

Central Thought: Christ’s power heals the sick even today

Mark tells of Jesus’ power and authority over sickness. Those He touched were immediately made whole. One of the most dreaded diseases of Jesus’ day was leprosy. But Jesus even touched an unclean leper, and he was healed instantly.

The Bible makes it clear that one of the benefits of Christ’s death on the cross is healing. The prophet Isaiah foretold of the provision of healing through Christ in Isaiah 53:5: ‘But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.” In Matthew 10:8, Jesus gave His disciples authority to heal in His name: ‘Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.”

James admonished those who were sick to pray and to ask the elders of the church to pray the prayer of faith that they would be healed (James 5:13-16). The men who brought their friend to Jesus in Mark 2:1-12 brought him in faith. They believed Jesus could heal their friend. In the same way, you can come to Christ in faith for your healing need. The same Jesus can heal you as well.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, thank You for the stripes You took for my healing. I recognize Your power to heal and pray that I, too, will experience healing as Your power sweeps over my body and soul.
