Day 357: From Manger to Master

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Revelation 16:15

Central Thought: Christ came as a baby, but He will return as King.

Nativity sets make popular collector’s items. These sets can be wooden, metal, ceramic, crystal, or jewel-laden. They can be dollar store items, or they may be worth many thousands of dollars. Many Christian homes have at least one nativity scene; sometimes homes will have many sets. Yet, all of these sets have one thing in common—Jesus is a baby.

Though we remember the birth of Jesus at Christmas, we cannot afford to forget that Jesus grew up, completed His mission, returned to heaven, and one day will return as the conquering King. Today’s passage warns that His return will be like a thief and that people must be alert and waiting for His return. This passage clearly warns that we must not think of Jesus as simply the cute baby we can sing about in carols such as ‘Away in a Manger.” We must also acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior.

We should consider ways we can keep our focus on Jesus as Lord and King. The most important way we can do this is to let Him govern our lives. We can reaffirm His lordship this Christmas season and on every day of the year.

Devotional Prayer: Let us remember Jesus as King this Christmas.
