Day 335: Where to Look

Author: David Thomas

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 121:1-2

Central Thought: The best source of help is the One who created us.

When David looked at the hills surrounding Jerusalem, he saw the creative power of God. This reminded David that the Creator of heaven and earth had also crafted his life and that there was no better source of help in difficult times than from the Creator himself.

David, of course, did not need to see hills for this reminder. He could have seen God’s handiwork over an ocean, or across a sprawling plain, or even in the arid environment of a desert.

The key for us in seemingly helpless times like David experienced is where not to look for help: within ourselves. We should look to the One who created us. Of course, we often create a problem—and we feel it is only right that we should solve it. But God knows us better than we know ourselves, and He wants us to look to Him for help.

To help remember that, look around. What do you see that indicates God is at work? Is there anything that you can do for yourself that Your Creator cannot do better?

Devotional Prayer: Thank You, Father, for being my source of help. Forgive me for the times when I have sought to help myself instead looking to You.
