Day 237: God’s Plans Triumph
Author: Don BaileyToday’s Scripture: Proverbs 21:30-31
Central Thought: God’s plans will triumph over any human plan.
‘Christianity will be dead within the next century.” This prediction has been made by some atheists at various times in the last two or three hundred years. Yet, strangely enough, Christianity has not only survived; but it has greatly expanded.
So what is it that these ‘experts” have missed? In the minds of these atheists, all religions are mere creations of the imagination of those who try to answer the great questions humankind has about the world’s origin and their purpose in life. Those who held to atheistic philosophies assumed that advances in society and scientific findings would render these religious ideas meaningless and unnecessary. However, the more science and society advance, the more apparent it becomes that there is more to life than can be understood with human reasoning.
Today’s passage focuses on this human tendency to want to trust in our own understanding and in our own ideas of the way life should go instead submitting to God’s purposes. Just as the ideas of the atheists were proven wrong those years ago, we find our plans and purposes ultimately failing when we do not acknowledge God’s supremacy in our lives. Instead of defying God, we will find far greater joy in submitting to His plans for our lives.
Devotional Prayer: Remind me, Lord, that You have the ultimate say in my life.
