Day 215: Our God Is Like No Other God

Author: Richard J. Bennett

Today’s Scripture: 2 Chronicles 32:9-19

Central Thought: God is the only true God who can deliver His people from their troubles.

Before our first child was born, my wife and I felt as if the Lord wanted her to not return to work for at least three months after the baby was born. I was the pastor of a small church at the time, and my salary wasn’t much. Since my wife’s income paid most of the bills, we talked to our banker about a small personal loan to help us cover our expenses while she would be off work. He politely listened to us, did some calculations, and told us as nicely as he knew how that we didn’t qualify for a loan. He told us he just could not see how we could possibly make it financially if my wife was off for three months after the baby was born.

These were not the words we had hoped to hear. But we still felt a strong conviction that this is what God wanted and He would provide. And God did. We received a check from the government for funds I was supposed to have received while in college. The insurance company sent our bill, but stated that we didn’t own anything for a month because we had been overcharged previously. Money came in as gifts from distant relatives and friends. God did for us what our banker said was impossible.

God has been doing this very thing for His people for a long time. The people of Judah heard a pagan king say, ‘No god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand!” (2 Chronicles 32:15). God’s people responded in the way we should when troubles threaten us. ‘Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven. And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword” (verses 20-21).

We can trust God to deliver us from our troubles and trials, for there is no other God like Him. He can do what others say is impossible.

Devotional Prayer: Thank You, God, that You are the living and true God who is able to deliver and protect Your people.
