Day 230: Are You Trustworthy?

Author: David Thomas

Today’s Scripture: Nehemiah 13:13

Central Thought: The works of the church are built upon people who are trustworthy and faithful.

We often focus on the responsibility of church leaders to set examples for church members. Today’s verse, however, focuses on the need for church members to be trustworthy and accept responsibility.

Good leaders delegate authority and responsibility to those who are trustworthy and faithful. Nehemiah selected four treasurers to oversee the collection and distribution of Judah’s tithes. He chose four men from various circles in Israeli society: a priest, a scribe, a Levite, and a layman. Despite their differences, these men shared one trait—they were considered trustworthy.

Today’s Christian leaders, likewise, need trustworthy men and women—regardless of social standing or background—to serve as leaders within the church. God’s work is not to be taken lightly. Leaders must give authority and responsibility to available people who have proved themselves to be trustworthy and faithful.

It is the responsibility of church members to faithfully share responsibilities with church leaders in day-to-day functions that fulfill God’s will on earth.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, may I always be trustworthy and faithful to You in everything I do, and may I always be of service to Your kingdom on earth.
