Day 121: Choose to Do Right, No Matter What
Author: Crystal OrtmannToday’s Scripture: Psalm 101:1-8
Central Thought: God gives us the choice to do good or evil. What will you choose?
In a culture of permissiveness and pessimism, it is easy to fall into the trap of insults, negative talk, and cynicism. These things seem to be rampant in our workplaces, in our homes when there are unsaved family members, and through television, DVDs, and our computers. It is possible for a child, a Christian, or any other unsuspecting person to accidentally fall prey to pornography via the computer.
We may be tempted to despair. The Psalmist had a different plan for his life in spite of the evil that prevailed in his time. The answer to the choices we should make can be found in the Bible. God’s Word is still pertinent to all our modern situations.
Psalm 101:3 says: ‘I will not set anything before my eyes that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me” (NIV).
Putting this verse into practice will help us change a television channel or turn off offensive programming. Temptation is not only visual, but sometimes it is audible. If someone is gossiping, complaining, or telling off-color jokes, we are often tempted to listen or even add our own tidbit. The words of Psalm 101:3 can also help us to express our disapproval and turn away from the conversation.
Worldly influence tries to wangle its way into the lives of believers in Christ. God’s Word has not changed. Let us look to it for guidance in the choices we make.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, help us realize that we have a choice when confronted with evil. And help us to make the right choice.
