Day 110: Hope

Author: Gwen Miller

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 13:12

Central Thought: Hope comes from God.

We thrive on hope. God created us that way. We were created to live in perfection. Remember the Garden of Eden? It was certainly a place of perfection. But that all changed when sin entered the world. With sin came death, pain, sorrow, sickness and disease, and every negative emotion we encounter—like hopelessness. But the good news is: through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we can rise above the curse of hopelessness. There truly is hope!

Delayed hope causes us to become heartsick according to Proverbs 13:12. Being heartsick can lead to depression and despair. Then the focal point becomes ‘self” instead of God.

Hope is the motivating factor in life. We as believers must guard our hearts, taking time to renew hope by finding what God’s Word says about our situation. Renewed hope comes from time spent meditating on God’s Word. It takes some effort on our part, but the reward is renewed desire that springs forth like a fruitful tree. Having a promise from God’s Word will breathe life into places once dead. It is called hope.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to find renewed hope in You and Your Word.
