Day 109: True Path to Prosperity

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 13:11

Central Thought: Financial prudence is the key to greater prosperity

‘You must get in on the ground floor. Opportunities like this just don’t come along very often.” Our world constantly looks for the latest idea on how to get rich. From winning a lottery to making a risky investment to starting a new business, many opportunities scream for those who are willing to try them. Sadly, too many find the latest scheme leaves them poorer than when they started.

Today’s passage contrasts dishonest and prudent financial management. Those who are dishonest may indeed gain wealth. However, that wealth comes at an awful price of personal integrity and serious legal consequences. Honest, prudent people, on the other hand, are not interested in the latest scheme. Rather, they rely on solid principles of money management and do not take unnecessary risks. As a result, they may not get rich quickly, but they do see God’s blessings on the things they have.

The lessons from the two extremes found in this verse can help us plan for our own financial futures. We need to begin by submitting to God’s plans and priorities for our lives. This will allow us to experience His blessing of prosperity.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, You are in control of all of my possessions.
