Day 107: The Lord is Good

Author: Gwen Miller

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 85:12

Central Thought: We will be blessed as God gives us what is good for us.

We live in a broken world. One look at the local newscast will testify to that. There are reports of natural disasters, hunger, war, and plagues. We do not have to look very far to see this world system is headed for ruin. But if we have made Jesus Lord of our lives, we can have the peace which passes all understanding. This marvelous peace came at a very high price. It was paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ when He gave His life on the cross. Jesus actually became a curse for us so we could be redeemed from the curse that is on this natural world as a result of sin (Galatians 3:13).

What good news that is! The Lord, who indeed is good, will give good to His children. As you and I meditate on the truly divine goodness of God, it will cause our steps to be a little lighter because we know that there is no evil in God at all. We do not have to wonder if disaster and hunger are the will of God. We can know according to Psalm 85:12 ‘The Lord will [indeed] give what is good.”

One time I began to mark down the Scripture passages I read that spoke of the goodness of God. I’m still finding out about this wonderful aspect of His divine nature, and every new discovery builds faith in my heart. He is truly good!

Devotional prayer: Dear Father, I am so thankful that You are characterized by Your goodness. Show me the depth of Your goodness as I meditate on this passage of Scripture today.
