A Few Christianity Basics
Author: The Journey Online TeamBecoming a Christian was the greatest decision that I have ever made.
My life would look a lot different if I did not have the love of Jesus in my life. Sadly, today many people choose to reject Christ and live lives that do not please Him. While I do not have all of the answers, my aim is to provide resources for people that want to learn more about a few basics of Christianity.
One of the most common mistakes that many people make is that they believe there are many ways to God. Pastor Jim Feeney, Ph.D., uses biblical truth to support why Jesus is the only way. God sent His son, Jesus, to pay the price for the wrong that we have done and grant us eternity in Heaven. We are saved by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.
One of the core doctrines of Christianity is belief in the Trinity.
Paul described the Trinity as “…the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit” (found in 2 Corinthians 13:14 NIV). The loving community that God has is beyond our human understanding. However it is important to acknowledge this aspect of the character of God, in order to understand his love for us. Dick Trip covers many topics related to understanding the Trinity with careful thought and theological examples.
The Holy Spirit plays a vital role in the Trinity.
However many aspects of the Holy Spirit can be difficult to understand. Pastor Ken Birks has a lot of helpful information for learning more about this topic. Pastor Ken writes about the characteristics of the Holy Spirit, as well as the important role that He plays in our lives today.
“The work of the cross is God’s offer of life. Baptism is our acceptance.” These words written by Jeff McFadden are a strong portrayal of the meaning of water baptism. It is a public declaration that a person is putting to death their old way of living, and living a new life with Jesus Christ. McFadden has many helpful thoughts and relevant biblical references related to baptism. Baptism is an important step in the life of a new believer, and McFadden can help you understand its meaning and purpose.
While we try to understand all of life’s questions, sometimes we just cannot find an answer.
Dawn Pick Benson describes how she used to think of God as a library; If Dawn had a question, God would give her the answer. While God cares about us, and has revealed his Word to us through the Bible, there are answers that only God can comprehend. Benson explains this concept well.
These authors cover some of the basics of Christianity. While I may not have all of the answers, thankfully I serve the God, who does. I can rest assured that His ways are higher, and be thankful that I can learn more about Him through the Bible and prayer.
