Run, and Don’t Look Back! – Part 2

“Hi, Tracy,” said Larry as he entered South High. He walked up to her and gave her a quick kiss.

“Larry, stop that,” said Tracy. “You know we’ll get into trouble if any of the teachers see us making out.”

“Oh, Trace, we’re not making out!” Larry laughed as he put his arm around her waist. “You’re special to me.”

Life had taken a sudden upturn for Larry when he and Tracy had started going together. The last two months had been wonderful, and he was enjoying life in a new way. Tracy was a knockout and a Christian. Larry thought she might be the girl he would one day marry.

A few weeks later, though, his dream ended as suddenly as it had begun. Tracy’s old boyfriend came back on the scene and convinced her that they should get back together.

“I can’t believe she would do this,” Larry muttered as he tried to do his homework. “I thought we had something special. What does she see in that creep anyway?” He felt as if he had been kicked in the stomach, and his heart ached. “I’ll never find anyone like Tracy.”

Days went by, but the hurt still gripped Larry. No matter what he did, his thoughts were always on Tracy and how he missed her.

“If only I could forget her for just a little while…” he murmured. Then he remembered the picture in the porn magazine. “Yeah, that’s it. I could hardly think of anything else for days after seeing that magazine at Jess’s house.”

The image replayed in his mind, and he found pleasure in his fantasy as it began to replace his thoughts of Tracy. That night he fell asleep imagining he was having sexual relationships with different girls. He realized the next morning that he had finally found an escape.

“I know it isn’t right, but, man, I have to get back on track and stop mooning around for a girl who doesn’t want me! Having a few harmless thoughts isn’t going to hurt,” Larry reasoned to himself.

At school that day, Larry spotted Jess during lunch.

“Hey, Jess. Do you have room for one more at your table?” he asked as he started sitting in the vacant seat.

“No problem. Sorry to hear about you and Tracy,” said Jess. “Man, that was a rotten thing for her to do, if you ask me.”

“Yeah, it was,” said Larry. “Say, remember when I was over at your house last fall and you showed me your dad’s magazine? I might be interested in taking you up on your offer of another look.”

Jess leaned across the table and whispered, “How about after school today? No one will be home, and I’ll show you stuff that would even shock my old man.”

Larry’s heart started racing, and he felt life was exciting again.

Are you seeking out pornography? Have you decided to use it as an escape from some emotional pain or stress? This is the entryway to addiction, which will enslave you and control your life. Once you’re hooked, the desire for pornography increases. Don’t be deceived into thinking you will be able to stop any time you want. The Lord can help you get out, but it isn’t easy. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:18, “Flee from sexual immorality” (NIV). The best and safest way is never to start looking at pornography. Run for your life and don’t look back.
