Few things in life can change our lives as quickly as illness. Whether you are facing your own sickness or you walking with someone who is ill, your whole world has been turned upside down.
Illness can happen to anyone. Until it happens to us, we might believe it only happens to others. Some people are judgmental and imagine that illness happens because of some bad thing that a person has done. When we become sick, we suddenly understand that illness just happens. We weren’t looking for it. We certainly didn’t ask for it. But once it comes, nothing stays the same.
The physical pain is horrible, but nothing compared to the sense of loss we feel. Our hopes and dreams can be crushed under the weight of sickness. Worst of all, few people understand the pain and fewer still know what to say when illness gets us down.
There is hope! God created us to live healthy, abundant lives but mankind rebelled against God. Now, we face sickness and disease as a way of life. God knows that. He sent His one and only Son to earth to be our healer!
But, the world did not receive Christ. Instead, they beat Him, subjected Him to a mock trial and then hung Him on a cross! Jesus died on that cross to take away our sins and provide for our healing. The Bible declares that, “by his wounds we are healed,” (Isaiah 53:5).
You might wonder if God heals everyone who calls on Him. The answer is simple, no. Not always. But, He allows us to go to Him and ask. He wants us to first find healing for our soul. Sometimes, those who have suffered sickness discover that is enough.
The truth is that God does not promise to heal everyone who ever faces sickness. Sometimes, He waits. At other times, the person who faced sickness never receives the healing they sought in this life. BUT, there is something more that God promises to those who call out to Him for forgiveness. It is His promise of eternal life.
The Bible is clear that all of us will die. That is the cost of sin in our world. But, the gift God offers each of whether we are healthy or not is life after death. How can you be sure to receive this promise?
It is as simple as a genuinely crying out to God in prayer. “Dear Jesus, I am sorry for the wrong things I have done. I need Your forgiveness and Your healing. I need You as my Lord and Savior. Help me to start a new life in You. In Jesus’ name, amen!” If you prayed that prayer, click the button to the right of this article that says: “I prayed the prayer.” When you do, someone will connect with you and help you take the next step forward.
