Death and God

Author: The Journey Online Team

Life under the best of circumstances is brief. On average a person can expect to live to the age of 67; however, if you live in Swaziland make that 32.6 years, or if it is in Australia it would be 81 years. The oldest confirmed age since Biblical times is 122 years. The Biblical record goes to a man named Methuselah. The Bible says, “And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.” So, Methuselah takes the Guinness Book of World records on that one!

Yet still, when it is all said and done, we have just a brief time here on the planet before we pass on. So, death is common to all regardless of ethnicity, social status, or place of birth. Most of us don’t really want to die, however. We want to live for as long as we can. As a matter of fact, some even have their bodies frozen in hopes that someday science will find a way to thaw them out and infuse new life into the body.

Now, what about you? If you had a choice, would you like to live much longer, even forever? Well, I’ve got good news for you. You can.

God’s Holy Word says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Isn’t that great news?! Eternal life is promised, and all we have to do is accept His Son and believe what He has to say and we shall be given eternal life. It could not get any better than that. It’s free. It’s backed by God’s promise. And, best of all, He has promised to let us know on the inside that this is all true.

Here is what He has to say about that last point:

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them” (1 John 4:11-16 NIV).

Would you like to experience the joyful assurance that God lives in you and that you can live in Him and under His protection when you face eternity? Well, you can. All you have to do is believe in His Son, Jesus, and He has promised you eternal life! But first, will you pray this prayer with me?

God, I do not pretend to understand what life is all about, but I do want to do Your will and live according to Your principles. Therefore, I ask that you accept me just as I am. I now believe in Jesus and what he has done for me, a sinner. Take away my sin and guilt. Live in me. And, give me the assurance that I now live in You as the Bible says I can. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Now, dear friend, if you really meant that prayer (and I am sure you did) will you please click onto the “I Prayed the Prayer” button to the right, so we can continue to pray for you?
